Volkswagen emissions scandal
U.S. regulators alleged that software in certain Volkswagen Group diesel vehicles detected official emissions testing and changed the operation of emissions-control systems. The affected vehicles included Volkswagen and Audi models sold with TDI branding. The case resulted in recalls, buybacks and other consumer remedies, regulatory and legal settlements, criminal proceedings, and lasting damage to the reputation of diesel technology and the TDI name.
