Sakamoto family murders source-protection controversy
TBS recorded an interview with lawyer Tsutsumi Sakamoto, who was investigating Aum Shinrikyo, and the interview material was shown to Aum members without his knowledge. The planned report was not broadcast. Sakamoto, his wife, and their child were later murdered by Aum members, leading to severe criticism of TBS's handling of journalistic sources and its role in the surrounding events.
