Chinese regulator fines Tencent and TAL for unreported acquisitions

On March 12, China's State Administration for Market Regulation fined Tencent and TAL Education Group 500,000 yuan each over acquisitions involving Yuanfudao and DaDa Education that the regulator found had been implemented without the required filing. The regulator said the concentrations did not have the effect of eliminating or restricting competition.

Company discloses employees suspected of forging contracts and inflating light-course sales
On April 7, 2020, TAL Education disclosed that an internal audit found that employees were suspected of conspiring with external merchants to forge contracts and other documents to inflate light-course sales. The light-course business accounted for about 3% to 4% of the company's estimated revenue for the fiscal year; this percentage is not the proportion of confirmed fraudulent revenue.
