Criticism of Dakko-Chan imagery
Takara’s Dakko-Chan character attracted overseas criticism during the 1980s because its appearance was viewed as evoking golliwog imagery and racial stereotypes. Production ended in 1988. A redesigned and more colorful revival appeared in 2001 with features associated with the criticism reduced or removed.
