Failed Easter bombing attempt at Ports of Call
A perpetrator associated with the 2019 Easter bombings entered the hotel's Ports of Call restaurant with explosives but did not detonate the device there. He subsequently detonated it at a motel in Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia.

Suicide bombing outside Taj Samudra
Admiral Clancy Fernando, commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, was killed in a suicide bombing outside the hotel on 16 November 1992. The New Zealand national cricket team was staying at the property at the time.
