Sanctions and alleged facilitation for sanctioned Syrian banks
SIIB was accused of acting for or on behalf of the Commercial Bank of Syria and of providing services to Syrian Lebanese Commercial Bank. The reported conduct included financing of almost $150 million during 2011–2012 and substantial payments in 2012, including one involving an entity associated with proliferation concerns. The European Union and Arab League responded with asset freezes and financial-system restrictions.
