SWTro

SWTro is the brand of Stadtwerke Trossingen, a municipal utility in Trossingen, Germany. The company provides electricity, natural gas, heat, water, and wastewater services. Its history dates back to 1897 when an electric power plant was built for the railway. The utility became a GmbH in 2001 and founded the energy supply company EnTro.

The history of Stadtwerke Trossingen began with the construction of an electric power plant in 1897 to supply electricity for the railway line from Trossingen to the main axis Rottweil-Villingen. In 1909, the railway and the power plant passed into the ownership of the municipality of Trossingen. In 1925, the company ceased its own electricity generation. In 1948, a decision was made to convert the power supply from direct current to alternating current, and the expansion of the electricity distribution network was pushed forward in the following years. In 1983, the district heating sector was added. In 1997, the Stadtwerke took over the electricity network in the district of Schura and the local supply. In 2001, the Stadtwerke became a GmbH and founded the energy supply company EnTro with the business divisions electricity and heat. In 2002, the natural gas network was acquired to secure the gas supply, and Stadtwerke Villingen-Schwenningen acquired a 25.1% stake in EnTro.
