Labor dispute surrounding pandemic-era closures
After Surly announced layoffs and the closure of its Minneapolis hospitality operations, employees announced an intention to unionize with Unite Here Local 17. Some labor leaders alleged the action was retaliatory and filed unfair-labor-practice charges. The union vote failed by one vote in October 2020.
