    XP-400 crash litigation and settlement

Superior settled a lawsuit for US$5 million concerning the 2016 fatal crash of a Van's Aircraft RV-8A fitted with an XP-400 engine. The NTSB determined that the crankshaft failed because of metal fatigue after approximately 20 hours of flight. The matter followed the company's 2019 withdrawal and buyback of XP-400 and XP-382 engines.
