Sunbeam accounting fraud investigation
The SEC alleged that Sunbeam executives, including Albert J. Dunlap, used improper accounting practices to inflate reported 1997 earnings and create the appearance of a major turnaround from exaggerated losses in 1996. The action also named other Sunbeam officers and an Arthur Andersen accountant. Dunlap was ultimately barred from serving as an officer or director of a public company.
