History
Sumidagawa Shipyard was established in 1913 when Baron Shinpachi Takahashi founded Sumidagawa Shipyard in Mukojima, becoming its first president. It started as Japan's first Western-style ship factory. Over the years, it has built various vessels including patrol boats for the Japan Coast Guard, fire boats, high-speed craft, and ships for overseas governments. In 1969, it moved its headquarters and factory from Mukojima, Sumida Ward to the current shipbuilding complex in Koto Ward.
