Streamlabs Studio promotional and OBS branding controversy

After Streamlabs Studio launched for Xbox consoles, Lightstream alleged that Streamlabs had copied elements of its promotional materials. OBS Studio separately objected to Streamlabs using “OBS” in product names after OBS had denied permission, arguing that the branding could suggest an unauthorized partnership. Streamers including Pokimane and Hasan Piker threatened a boycott, while Elgato and 1UpCoin also criticized Streamlabs over alleged product copying. Streamlabs subsequently removed “OBS” from its product names.

Streamlabs faces plagiarism criticism over Streamlabs Studio

The dispute centered on similarities between the two companies' marketing materials and product presentation.

    Company response

    • Apology — Streamlabs

We removed the text as soon as we found out. Our intended version is now live. Lightstream team is great and we've reached out directly to them to apologize.
