Role in the Nazi killing program
During National Socialism, Scheuern was used as an intermediate institution for the Hadamar Nazi killing center. More than 1,500 people were transferred through the institution before being murdered, and 153 people died within its facilities. The institution also experienced forced sterilization and other forms of Nazi coercion. A deliberate institutional reckoning with this history began only in the mid-1990s.
