Stiftung Charité

Stiftung Charité is an independent, private-law, non-profit foundation founded in 2005 by entrepreneur Johanna Quandt. It supports the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and other life science institutions through funding programs in innovation, science, and open life science.

The Stiftung Charité was founded in 2005 by the entrepreneur Johanna Quandt (1926–2015). It is an independent, private-law, non-profit foundation with the purpose of promoting life sciences and university medicine in Berlin across science, research, education, and healthcare. The foundation's creation goes back to Johanna Quandt's close connection with Berlin and medicine; she was born, raised, and trained as a medical-technical assistant there. Her choice of profession was also influenced by her good relationship with her grandfather, Max Rubner (1854–1932), a pioneer in nutritional physiology who held various positions at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin (now Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin).
