A district court in Columbia, South Carolina, ruled that STL unjustly benefited from acquiring Prysmian Group trade secrets and awarded $96.5 million in damages against the company.

Fitel optical-fiber patent lawsuit
Fitel USA, a Furukawa Electric subsidiary, sued STL over alleged infringement of several optical-fiber patents, including patents concerning the manufacture of fiber with low polarization-mode dispersion. The dispute was settled in January 2010.
