Postwar occupation-era war-crimes allegations
After Japan’s surrender, Shochiku president Shiro Kido and co-founder Matsujirō Shirai were arrested and charged by Allied occupation authorities in connection with Class-A war-crimes allegations. Shirai’s charges were ultimately dropped, while the episode reflected the scrutiny directed at Japanese film-industry leaders after the war.
