Former chairman Chen Xuyuan sentenced to life for accepting 81.03 million yuan in bribes
Chen Xuyuan served as president and chairman of SIPG from 2011 to 2019 and became president of the Chinese Football Association in 2019. He was investigated in 2023. In March 2024, a court found that from 2010 to 2023 he used the convenience of his positions at SIPG and the Chinese Football Association to seek benefits for others in contracting projects and football club access, accepting more than 81.03 million yuan in bribes, and sentenced him to life imprisonment. It was a core case in China's football anti-corruption storm; he accepted bribes from multiple companies during his SIPG tenure.
