  1. Historical links with the Iwerne camps and John Smyth abuse

An independent review examined Scripture Union's historical relationship with the Iwerne camps, where young people were reportedly groomed for sexual abuse in the 1970s and 1980s. The review said the camps were run by the Iwerne Trust, not Scripture Union, but noted that Scripture Union supported the operations and employed three staff members connected with them. John Smyth, who abused young people and was associated with Iwerne, had also served as a Scripture Union trustee.
