Edward Bremer kidnapping
Edward Bremer, a member of the family controlling the brewery, was kidnapped by the Barker–Karpis gang on January 16, 1934. He was released on February 7 after a reported ransom of $200,000. The incident was a criminal case involving the ownership family rather than an allegation of misconduct by the brewery itself.
