Forced labor at Schichau facilities
During the Second World War, prisoners from satellite camps of the Stutthof concentration camp system were transported to Schichau facilities near Danzig. The workforce included prisoners from several European countries and Germany. Reported conditions included inadequate food, lack of winter clothing, epidemics, accidents and beatings; many prisoners died, with bodies cremated or buried in mass graves. This history links the company directly to the forced-labor system of Nazi Germany.
