Del Webb licensing and business-conduct scrutiny
Del Webb’s Atlantic City plans were affected by regulatory and legal scrutiny. The company faced proceedings concerning alleged construction kickbacks and accusations involving improper political contributions, beer rebates, the provision of prostitutes to high rollers, and weak financial controls. Although Del Webb was acquitted in the kickback case and later obtained a Claridge casino license after management changes, the Sahara project was abandoned.
