Real Alternative litigation
RealNetworks sued Dutch webmaster Hilbrand Edskes over links associated with Real Alternative, an unofficial package intended to play RealMedia files without RealPlayer. The case was dismissed in 2011 and damages were awarded to Edskes; RealNetworks later appealed.
2008
RealDVD copyright litigation
RealNetworks’ RealDVD product became the subject of litigation by the DVD Copy Control Association. The court found that the software conflicted with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and contractual restrictions governing DVD copy protection, and an injunction barred distribution.
