2025
Copa del Rey referee criticism
Before the 2025 Copa del Rey final, Real Madrid TV aired a video that criticised referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea by discussing team results under his officiating, his absence from UEFA Champions League and FIFA tournament appointments, and alleged errors against Real Madrid. De Burgos Bengoetxea and Pablo González Fuertes responded publicly by highlighting the pressure on referees and their families. Real Madrid called the officials’ remarks unacceptable.
