Community backlash over Puppet distribution and licensing changes
After Perforce changed the planned distribution of Puppet binaries and packages, community members criticized the move to a private repository, contributor access through an end-user license agreement, and commercial licensing requirements for use beyond 25 nodes. Critics argued that the changes weakened transparency and departed from Puppet’s earlier open-source model. The OpenVox fork emerged in response, while Perforce retained control of the Puppet trademark.
