Federal environmental criminal case
Caterpillar disclosed in 2013 that a federal criminal indictment had been secured against Progress Rail in connection with allegations involving the dumping of parts into the ocean. Progress Rail later pleaded guilty in 2017 and paid a $5 million fine and $20 million in restitution.
