Zarutska family files wrongful death lawsuit against Charlotte and PSS
The family of Iryna Zarutska filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the City of Charlotte and its private transit security contractor, Professional Police Services Inc. (doing business as Professional Security Services, or PSS), alleging systemic failures and inadequate security staffing on the Lynx Blue Line at the time of her fatal stabbing on Aug. 22, 2025. The suit alleges no security guard was aboard the train and that PSS was understaffed relative to its contract. The allegations have not been adjudicated.
