Criticism over response to racial-justice protests
Following George Floyd's murder and nationwide protests against police violence and racism, more than 1,000 poets and supporters signed an open letter criticizing the Poetry Foundation's response and calling for the resignations of president Henry S. Bienen and board chair Willard Bunn III. Both resigned on June 10, 2020. The foundation subsequently announced commitments to organizational change and discussed an equity audit and related reforms.
