    Delaware River crossing initiation incident

On January 23, the Rider College chapter used a staged reenactment of George Washington's Delaware crossing as the final stage of pledge initiation. Forty pledges crossed in five rowboats wearing Revolutionary War costumes. Rival fraternity members reportedly attacked the participants with tomatoes, oranges, firecrackers, and other disruptions; later confrontations included an attempted kidnapping of the member portraying Washington, a pillow fight, and the capture of a drummer-boy participant.
