Irish capital-gains tax dispute
The Irish Revenue Commissioners claimed that Perrigo owed approximately €1.64 billion in capital-gains tax connected with Elan's earlier sale of Tysabri to Biogen. Perrigo disputed the classification of the transaction and argued for treatment as trading income. The dispute followed Perrigo's 2013 Irish tax inversion and caused a severe one-day decline in the company's share price.
