PCCW privatisation vote controversy
PCCW’s proposed privatisation attracted allegations that shares had been distributed to a large number of Fortis Insurance Asia agents in a way that could influence the shareholder vote. The Securities and Futures Commission investigated the matter. A lower-court approval was later overturned unanimously by the Court of Appeal.

Conflicting statements over Cable & Wireless approach
PCCW initially issued a statement denying that it had made a formal offer or was in takeover talks with Cable & Wireless, then acknowledged that it had sent a preliminary approach. The company apologized after the Hong Kong Stock Exchange sought an explanation.
