Australian waterfront dispute and workforce dismissals
Patrick dismissed its entire dock workforce during a restructuring and attempted to replace the employees with a non-union workforce trained overseas. The action led to picketing and a major industrial-relations dispute. In Patrick Stevedores Operations No 2 Pty Ltd v Maritime Union of Australia, the dismissals were found to have been unlawful.
