Fatal racing accident involving Jose Flores
Hall of Fame jockey Jose Flores was critically injured in a March 19 racing accident at Parx and died on March 22. The horse involved was euthanized after the incident.

Jockey waiver controversy
Reports stated that Parx required jockeys to sign a waiver as a condition of riding at the track. The requirement was linked in reporting to litigation arising from the fatal 2010 backstretch injuries suffered by exercise rider Mario Calderon. The Jockeys’ Guild objected to the waiver’s language and advised members not to sign it.
