FTC settlement over deceptive technology-service claims
The Federal Trade Commission alleged that Office Depot and Support.com used software and sales practices that falsely indicated customers’ computers showed malware or other problems, encouraging purchases of technical-support services. The companies agreed to pay a combined $35 million to resolve the allegations.
