Marilao labor and police-dispersal controversy
A labor dispute at NutriAsia’s Marilao plant concerned subcontracting, regular employment, union activity and alleged workplace safety issues. After a June 30 gathering at the protest site, police reportedly injured at least 30 people and arrested 19, including workers, supporters and journalists. Labor, religious and human-rights bodies expressed concern. NutriAsia rejected the interpretation that the affected workers were directly employed by the company.
