Nasipit-linked political courtroom assassination
Former Nasipit mayor Mariano Corvera Sr. was fatally shot in a courtroom in Butuan on 10 March 1988. The subsequent investigation led to murder charges against several people, and investigating fiscal Macario Balansag was later assassinated. The case produced convictions and a later reversal on appeal.
