Leyton warehouse fire and destruction of contemporary artworks

A deliberately started fire at an adjoining unit spread through the Cromwell industrial estate and destroyed more than 100 artworks in a Momart warehouse. The losses included works by Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas, Gary Hume, Jake and Dinos Chapman and Helen Chadwick. Artists and insurers later alleged negligence in legal proceedings that ended in an undisclosed mediated settlement.
