Controversy over the Mohren name and logo

Critics argued that the brewery’s name and heraldic Moor’s-head logo reflected outdated and racist representations of people of African descent. The brewery defended the symbol through its historical association with Josef Mohr, long-term use, and claimed links to depictions of Saint Maurice. The dispute became more prominent in 2020, and a petition supporting retention of the image reportedly collected more than 6,000 signatures.
