Nazi-era institutional use and concentration-camp connection
During the Nazi period, Mittersill Castle was used by institutions connected with Inner Asian research and the Ahnenerbe. It also served briefly as an external command site associated with Mauthausen concentration camp. Historical accounts state that at least fifteen female prisoners, described as Jehovah’s Witnesses, were brought to the site. The property’s wartime role and reported pseudo-scientific activities are a serious part of its historical record.
