2012–2014 musician lockout and labor dispute

A breakdown in collective bargaining led the Minnesota Orchestral Association to lock out musicians in October 2012. The dispute canceled the entire 2012–13 season and produced significant public controversy. Music director Osmo Vänskä resigned during the conflict. The lockout ended in January 2014 after a new labor agreement was reached, and Vänskä returned for the following season.
