Lead-glaze pottery recall
In March 1971, the FDA announced a recall of more than 400,000 Metlox pottery pieces because of high lead content in the glaze. Metlox voluntarily recalled its California Poppytrail Tempo and Mission Verde series and part of the Petalburst pattern in the Metlox Vernonware series. One suspected poisoning was reported. The available account states that the remainder of Metlox’s pottery did not present lead-leaching problems.
