After Ricardo Mansur acquired control of Mesbla and Mappin, the attempted restructuring was accompanied by allegations that he circulated false information while seeking financing or a buyer. His bank was investigated over alleged fraudulent practices, later liquidated, and Mansur was arrested with assets blocked. These events contributed to the failure of the retail rescue effort.
