Securities-fraud investigation
Media Vision's rapid growth was followed by a major securities-fraud investigation. Chief executive Paul Jain stepped down on May 17, 1994. The associated legal proceedings continued for years, with criminal charges filed against Jain in 1998 and judgments against Jain and CFO Steve Allen.

Bankruptcy and corporate collapse
The company sought Chapter 11 protection in December 1994 after it could not sustain its expansion. The corporate identity subsequently ended when the company was renamed Aureal Semiconductor in 1996.
