A-12 Avenger II program cancellation and litigation

The A-12 stealth carrier-attack-aircraft program was terminated after technical problems, cost overruns, and delays. McDonnell Douglas and General Dynamics disputed the government’s decision concerning contract payments, producing prolonged litigation that was not settled until 2014. The program’s collapse also contributed to layoffs and intensified pressure on McDonnell Douglas during the post-Cold War downturn.
