Maria Primachenko design-copying controversy
Marimekko designer Kristina Isola admitted copying elements from a 1963 painting by Ukrainian artist Maria Primachenko. The disputed design had been used on a Finnair aircraft, which was repainted after the issue became public. The copyright holder, a Ukrainian folk-art museum, pursued legal action.

Additional allegations concerning pattern originality
Other Marimekko works were alleged to resemble earlier designs by Maria Jauhiainen, Markus Lepo, and Heljä Liukko-Sundström. The company rejected some accusations and attempted to settle others. The chief executive later apologized for misleading consumers about the originality of designs in the Lepo-related matter.
