Hurricane Maria claims disputes
Lawsuits filed in the U.S. Virgin Islands alleged that MAPFRE-related insurers delayed or inadequately handled Hurricane Maria property claims, including allegations concerning adjuster capacity, settlement offers and bad-faith conduct. Puerto Rico’s insurance regulator separately fined MAPFRE entities for delays in processing hurricane claims. The allegations and legal claims should be distinguished from adjudicated findings.
