Overview
MagtiCom, LLC is a Georgian telecommunications company headquartered in Tbilisi. Founded on February 12, 1996 by George (Gia) Jokhtaberidze, the company entered commercial operation with its first mobile-network call on September 22, 1997. It developed into one of Georgia’s principal communications providers, serving consumers, businesses and public institutions through a combination of mobile connectivity, fixed communications, broadband internet and television services. The company’s mobile network has progressed through successive generations of technology, including GSM, GPRS, UMTS, HSPA+, LTE, LTE-Advanced and 5G. Its mobile internet development began with early WAP and packet-data services in the early 2000s, followed by 3G deployment in 2006, 4G LTE in 2015, LTE-Advanced in 2016 and 5G deployment in 2024. MagtiCom operates across multiple spectrum bands and, according to company-published information, covers approximately 99% of Georgia’s populated and controlled territory. It also provides roaming services through international partner networks. MagtiCom broadened beyond mobile communications during the 2010s. In 2008 it introduced Magti Fix, a wireless fixed-telephone service based on CDMA technology. In 2012 it launched MagtiSat, a satellite television service that could reach customers throughout Georgia. The company later discontinued MagtiSat and migrated subscribers to its internet-protocol television platform. In 2016, following the acquisition of operational assets from Caucasus Online and the purchase of Deltacom, MagtiCom added fiber-optic internet, IPTV, cable fixed telephony using VoIP and hosting services. This made it a converged operator offering mobile and fixed telephony, internet access and television under one commercial structure. Its consumer television activities include IPTV functions such as pausing, rewinding and resuming programs. MagtiCom has also offered Georgian-language movie channels produced for its customers, including Magti Hit, Magti Kino and Chveni Magti. Digital customer tools include the MyMagti mobile application, electronic-signature functionality, web chat and an AI-supported customer-service platform. The company also publishes Constant, a quarterly magazine covering corporate developments, technology and related subjects. MagtiCom has maintained a visible role in Georgian public infrastructure and social initiatives. In 2009 it implemented a nationwide connectivity project for public schools and educational resource centers commissioned by Georgia’s Ministry of Education and Science, connecting more than 2,150 sites according to the company’s account. Under the motto “We do it for Georgia,” it has supported projects connected with culture, sport, health, arts and education, including publications devoted to Georgian cultural figures. The company is privately controlled, with George Jokhtaberidze reported as holding a 75% stake. MagtiCom has been described as a market leader in Georgia’s mobile and internet-service sectors. Precise market-share, subscriber and network-scale figures vary by reporting date and should be read in the context of Georgian National Communications Commission statistics or company disclosures.
History
MagtiCom was established in Georgia on February 12, 1996, by George (Gia) Jokhtaberidze. Its first commercial mobile call took place on September 22, 1997, marking the beginning of its operations as a mobile telecommunications provider. During the early 2000s, the company introduced progressively richer mobile-data services, moving from WAP access and basic packet data to GPRS and later high-speed 3G technologies. MagtiCom expanded its technical and commercial portfolio throughout the following decade. It launched a youth-oriented Bali brand and obtained a CDMA 800 MHz operating license in 2005. Deployment of 3G in 2006 enabled services such as video calling, mobile television and faster mobile internet. In 2008 the company introduced Magti Fix, a CDMA-based wireless fixed-telephone service. It also undertook a major public-sector connectivity project in 2009, linking more than 2,150 Georgian public schools and educational resource centers. The company entered television in 2012 with MagtiSat, described as Georgia and the South Caucasus’ first satellite-broadcasting operator. In 2013 it added three Georgian-dubbed movie channels: Magti Hit, Magti Kino and Chveni Magti. MagtiCom launched 4G/LTE in February 2015 and LTE-Advanced in May 2016. That same year was a decisive transformation period: it acquired operational assets from Caucasus Online, purchased Deltacom and began retail provision of fiber-optic internet, IPTV and fixed VoIP telephony, while also offering hosting. These moves changed MagtiCom from a primarily mobile operator into a full-service communications company. From 2017 onward, MagtiCom was identified as a leading Georgian internet-service provider. It launched VoLTE in 2018, a smartphone television application in 2019 and eSIM services later that year. The company tested 5G in 2020 and adopted a new logo in September of that year. Subsequent developments included electronic-signature functionality, business-intelligence systems and information-security certification. MagtiCom implemented its 5G network in October 2024. Magti Fix was discontinued in 2022, while MagtiSat was discontinued at the end of that year and subscribers were moved to IPTV. MagtiCom’s present operating model spans mobile voice and data, fixed broadband, IPTV, VoIP, enterprise services and roaming. Its infrastructure uses several radio-access generations and spectrum bands, and company materials describe nationwide coverage reaching roughly 99% of the populated and controlled territory. The operator serves customers through retail offices, public-service-hall outlets, telephone support and digital channels. It remains a privately controlled Georgian company associated with its founder and controlling shareholder, George Jokhtaberidze.
