Acid-tar pond leakage and severe water contamination
A major leakage from the former refinery's waste ponds reportedly spread across several kilometres of forest and contaminated water near nearby villages. The reference material states that experts measured phenol levels in runoff at up to 1,500 times permitted limits.

Environmental contamination and court-ordered liquidation
The enterprise was liquidated by a Lviv court in April 2009 after serious environmental problems were associated with the refinery. Acid-tar ponds reportedly contained more than 200,000 cubic metres of waste, with sulfuric-acid concentrations reaching up to 85 percent. Leakage of acidic filtrate had affected nearby water resources and wells.
