Chesapeake & Ohio H-8 weight dispute
Lima's stated weight for its Chesapeake & Ohio H-8 locomotives was later found to be lower than the weight calculated by maintenance personnel. Because crews were compensated in part according to locomotive weight on the driving wheels, the discrepancy led to compensation payments by the railroad and a lawsuit against Lima seeking more than three million dollars. The dispute damaged Lima's standing and is commonly associated with the company's subsequent decline.
