Lennar and Lennar Mortgage face class action over 2026 data breaches

Lawsuit filed

A homebuyer filed a class action on August 17, 2026, in federal court in Miami against Lennar Corporation and Lennar Mortgage, LLC, alleging negligence in failing to prevent two 2026 intrusions that exposed customers' Social Security numbers, government identification numbers, driver's license numbers, dates of birth and financial account information. The suit says Lennar disclosed the incident around August 11, 2026, and posted a public letter about the May breach. The plaintiff claims unauthorized access or attempted access to at least one of her accounts, fraudulent transactions attempted in her name, and increased spam calls and texts. The complaint brings negligence and negligence per se claims, the latter tied to Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act, and seeks class certification, damages, and an order requiring a comprehensive information security program, independent third-party security auditors, employee training, and limits on data retention. The allegations have not been ruled on by any court.

Minkow extortion and false allegations

Barry Minkow circulated false claims about Lennar in an extortion scheme connected to a dispute involving Nicolas Marsch III. The episode caused a severe short-term share-price decline. Minkow was later convicted, imprisoned and ordered to pay restitution.

Post-Hurricane Andrew construction lawsuits

After Hurricane Andrew, homeowners sued Lennar and alleged that homes had been built negligently or with inadequate quality. The litigation represented a significant construction-quality challenge for the company.
