George Hudson's conflicted lease arrangement
George Hudson chaired both the Leeds and Bradford Railway and the Midland Railway when the Midland proposed leasing the former. He participated in advocating the ten-percent arrangement despite the conflict of interest, and personally benefited. The episode damaged Hudson's reputation and became associated with the wider railway-finance controversies that ended his career as a leading railway promoter.
